LOOKING FOR NEW ANIME TO WATCH. I'm ridiculously lost now that Gundam is done and I want a series that is already done that I can just start on and watch really quickly. I'm on vacation for the next two weeks. So right now anime is the top priority, though I'm also open to Manga and video games.

I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR A NEW MANGA SERIES TO START. All the same requirements, though I want it 10+ books instead of 1-2 seasons. I'm fairly certain I've found and read everything published in America worth my time, so a scanlated series is fine, too.

NEW VIDEO GAME SERIES ALSO WELCOME. Any system except a PS3. Again, same requirements, but must be LONG.

I've come to realize that my standards for anime and manga alike are so extreme that it's no surprise I can never find anything I like. =\

Requirements for everything:

Serious plot. Preferably war anime/manga (all VGs are war), be it mecha or traditional fantasy or other.

Coherent plot that actually makes sense.

Non-episodic. Basically, I don't want 24 mini-stories.

All major characters must have depth. No flat characters.

The 'bad guys' also have depth and can be sympathized with.

Hero can not be dopey and annoying, then stereotypically super-scary in battle.

Romance to a minimum.

At least 13 episodes, preferably 1-2 full seasons though.

No school drama. No teenage angst drama. No annoying love triangles.

No chibi-fying or SD-ing of characters. No cutesy shit.

Good music.

Preferably a series than can be 'fandom-ized'. You know how some anime may be completely amazing, but they just don't seem the type you'd want to write/read fanfics on, or even the type that CAN have a fandom? Yea.

Have not seen/read/played obviously, not that you'd necessarily know.


Examples
Ex of anime: Gundams, Death Note, Nabari no Ou, Full Metal Alchemist
Ex of manga: Angel Sanctuary, GodChild, Death Note, D. Gray-man.
Ex of video games: Final Fantasies, Xenosaga
Things like FMA and D-Gray-man CAN be okay even though they do have some of the cutesy shit, but their plus sides REALLY have to outweigh that. I'm considering Soul Eater but again, lots of annoying shit. So I don't know.

KUROSHITSUJI is sexay like whoah. Opening theme. Isaak. XD Very impressed with the anime so far.

...is the ending theme REALLY sung by Meredith Brooks? The one who sang "Bitch"? That's just awesome.

Not so impressed with Tales of the Abyss, but I'll give it a couple more episodes. Haven't watched Linebarrels yet, though I downloaded it. VKG isn't out subbed yet (which I find odd) and Chaos:Head starts next weekend. And well, you know how I feel about Gundam. =D

That's about it. Had to go to half a dozen anime blogs before I found a non-biased list. Seems the majority of hardcore anime bloggers are males, as most of them focus only on the harem and/or angsty-love series like Rosario Vampire and eF. Haaa I found one where Kuro was actually called a yaoi, which is...interesting.

I have a feeling that of the 4 "maybe" series, I'll drop at least two. The other "Tales of..." anime adaptations have sucked, but as this is a TV series and not just an OAV, I'm willing to give it a shot. KuroShitsuji COULD be interesting as an anime, though even I have to admit the manga is hella boring for a while early on. I hope they can cram all the cutesy blah into one episode. And like I said, I know very little about the other two maybe series. HOWEVER, I guess having six series that look remotely interesting is better than last season, which had four (only two of which ended up being good). And G002 is a definite, as is VKG.

THAT IS ALL FOR NOW. I will be back obsessively once G00 2 starts, which is IN A WEEK. I've been, uhm, "preparing". As in, writing as many of the semester's essays as I can now. So I can waste every Sunday from here on out being psychotic over psychotic boys in mecha suits.

Nabari No Ou's is officially out of fansubbers now. After nineteen fucking episodes, we lose the series. AND IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN LICENSED OVER HERE. Sucks either way, but at least if it was, we could possibly get the last seven years in, oh, what, a year and a half?

NnO is the only anime I'm even watching this season because everything else either ended or totally sucks. And now I might not even be able to watch that. If a series isn't even licensed, I don't know why the hell they have to be pulling all these cease-and-desists out of their asses.

And no, I don't find it odd that I support fansubs, hate C&Ds, and still get pissed when companies drop my favorite titles. Tokyopop is suffering financial difficulties because 75% of what they publish totally SUCKS. Some sort of discrimination is required as a publisher. I sincerely doubt that manga and anime companies are going out of business because of scanlations and fansubs.

If anything, they should take advantage of them. Watch which series pick up multiple fansubbers/scanlaters and are downloaded en masse. Pay attention to what series collect fandoms. If it sells in Japan and if kids worldwide are clamoring to download it the second it comes out in English online, chances are it will sell here. Why should WE suffer because THEY waste their resources publishing total shit?

PS for fun - Someone called the store where I work yesterday. They were asking for a specific brand of socks. I asked him if he was aware of the fact that we were a BOOKSTORE. He said yes. Yea. Really haven't been on LJ much for almost a week now. Haven't been ONLINE much. Real life is kind of beating me down at the moment. Lot of different reasons, none of which are particularly interesting. Just shit like I got my school bill and I'm, uhm, completely screwed. I started work and am only getting a few hours a week for some reason. I got my report card and the professor I hate gave me a lower grade than is possible considering my average in that class. I have some stomach bug thing. Char and I went out and got attacked my mysterious flying cow crap. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Just a lot of dumb little things that, when they add up, really put me in one helluva bad mood. I've been trying to get my sleep schedule back to normal for work purposes, so that's the main thing cutting into my internet time. That and I've just been being avoidant. So sorry about neglecting comments and friends list and purg and all of that. I haven't written a fic in two months. I don't know wtf is wrong with me.

I GOT MY HALLELUJAH FIGURINE. She had put my address down wrong, so it got sent back to her. It had to be sent twice....but he's here now, so I'm happy. My Haro broke, on the other hand. And I think it's really broken this time, so I'm kind of upset about that. I've heard that other peoples' broke early on too, so there's likely a glitch in them or something. I can't exactly return it and wait for a new one though. So ;_; my cute Haro.....

Uhmmmmm Hallelujah is the fucking sexiest man ever. He's a BEAST. <3 WATCH THIS EVEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT GUNDAM IS. He's the guy who starts stripping. I can't believe someone made this. Holy crap.

And all the characters dance in character, which is totally bizarre. Like if you asked the five of them to street-dance, that's probably how they would do it....THANK YOU pandatchi, I CAN'T STOP WATCHING IT NOW.

A couple of friends succeeded in getting me hooked on another series. Watched episodes 1-8 of Gurren Lagann. REALLY wish I had started it back when it came out last summer.

I'm both glad and annoyed that the series is continuing in manga form to cover the 4-year gap. Glad because we have something canon to follow until October. Annoyed because it's going to cause wild canon confusion (going to? it already has), especially now that it's been licensed and we're going to get all new fans now.

Whatever. Someone just translate it NOW.

What is all this bullshit about Allelujah being a prisoner of war? One post in the AS forums that the poster will not back up nor elaborate upon and everyone's already writing fics about it. All we know is that ONE Meister was POSSIBLY taken as a POW. We don't know who, and we don't even know if they definitely were taken. My word on it

Just finished Jyu oh Sei. I wrote a longish review on it, but here are some download links that you may want. I highly suggest this anime, so DOWNLOAD IT ANYWAY, but I myself like watching opening/ending before I DL stuff, so I have links for the theme songs, as well as the soundtrack.

It's one of those series that makes you think, because the whole time you're going "ew gross!" or "that's so inhuman" or "I can't believe he just did that/she just said that! I'm better than that". And then you get to the last two episodes, and everything gets completely turned around and what you thought was sane/normal/human really...isn't.
