Finished Angel Sanctuary for the second time last night. I'm not going to go into a rave on it again, but I did want to mention a few (mindless) comments.
But first, if anyone has a scan of the cover page of Chapter 114 (second chapter in last volume) I would really appreciate it. It's a picture of Rosiel sitting in "casual"/normal clothes with a young Katan curled up against him, sleeping. And Rosiel just looks so damn happy.
It reminds me of Isaak and young Di, when Isaak had his human moments( Spoilers behind cut )This one isn't a spoiler, so I won't put it behind a cut, and it kind of leads into other things.
8) And another recurring theme is really, really powerful male/male friendship. Some of her characters are undeniably gay, like Kato, Katan, and Rosiel (who went from loving his sister to loving himself to loving Katan) I think Kira too, but I don't know really. (not Lucifer or Sakuya though). And I can fangirl all I want, but I know most of the other characters just...aren't. Like Michael and Raphael. And Zaphikel and Razael (damnit!). And Kurai and Arachne.
But I think she really understands that idea of the most powerful love being a bond of friendship between two men (I guess women too? Like her Sara and Lil). It was an idea emphasized in classical times, and even a little in Shakespeare (though I like to think Antonio and Bassanio were gay XD), but it's kind of fallen into disuse. With the exception of Tolkien's Sam and Frodo. Partly because of people like ME, who go "omg!theyregayhowcute" at everything, and also because of people who are AFRAID of being seen as gay. Very strong love between friends is often automatically seen as romantic (I hate to use that word, because romantic love is not Romantic love at all....it's rather Anti-Romantic) love these days, which sort of makes you wonder what sort of society we live in now. It's always something I've found very beautiful. I DO see it as higher than the love of lovers.
and come on, if it's two hot guys, they're allowed to get it on now and then, too!. I love yaoi, and I love fangirling and reading into things, but when it comes down to it, two men who love one another THAT much as friends is just........I don't know. I can appreciate it more. Would this be a bad time to say I love IxD because it is love on several different levels?
Which brings me to the whole question of the kinship between this love and the love of the Romantic...but I digressSorry if I haven't replied to your comments yet! I will get to it tonight.
